Use Your Eyes, You Will See!

If you read the daily horoscope columns you are led to believe that only the sign you were born under applies to you.   This is true in a direct way, yet just because you are a Capricorn does not mean that when the Sun moves into the sign of Libra this wouldn’t apply to you.   Each sign represents a particular flow of energy of the year cycle, and one only needs to look at the difference in the clothes on wears when the Sun is in Capricorn (January) than the clothes you wear when the Sun is in Cancer (July).  As the Sun moves through the signs of the zodiac, it brings “themes” to the surface which we can use to transform our lives in a more fruitful and productive way.

Most people are aware that the sign of Libra (the one we are currently in) deals with relationships.   There are many stories in both Myth and Fairytales that relate (such a Libran word) to this understanding of the sign.   I feel that one of the most useful images to amplify in order to understand the “organic nature” of Libra, and help us understand it is bound in the Mythic image of Tiresias.

The Myth of Tiresias: 

Tiresias was a prophet in Thebes, and his most famous myth involves him being transformed into a woman for 7 years.   The story tells of a simple, reasonable, and honest man who came upon a pair of snakes coupling in a garden.  Zeus and Hera, the King and Queen of the Gods, are having an argument over who has more sexual pleasure – a man or a woman.  Hera transforms Tiresias into a woman so that he could experience sex from both perspectives.    Seven years go by, and Tiresias once again returns to the garden and finds the snakes coupling, whereas Hera asks him to reveal his experience.   Tiresias reveals that “women” receive the greatest pleasure.  In fact, they receive 10X the pleasure sexually than what is experienced by a man.  Tiresias is struck blind by the vengeful goddess.    Zeus feels sorry for Tiresias, and gives him the gift of foresight in order to compensate for his loss.

What does the story mean? 

The story of Tiresias is important and instructive, because it reveals how out of balance (another Libran word) the male and female sex is when attempting to understand the other.   In my experience of being a psychic and counselor, I have come to find this true.   This applies to both sexes, because I feel that men have just as much of a problem understanding women as well.   The largest difficulty we have in relationships is the realization that who we are involved with does not think like “we” do.   Appreciating this (as Tiresias did) provides us with powerful tools of transformation. 

Becoming conscious of these differences provides us the ability to attempt to understand whom we are involved with and what motivates them.   Are they looking for the same things in life we are?   Are they on a different path than we are?   Does he understand how I feel, or does he just not comprehend feelings?   Is she really clingy and dependent or does she want to feel safe and secure? 

Asking inner questions and attempting to understand others provides us with balance.  Despite the unwanted experience that may occur (like Tiresias being struck blind), we are promised that we will receive a gift.   That gift is foresight!      Foresight gives us the power to move forward with our future knowing which direction and path we should take.  

In Conclusion:

The Sun traveling through the sign of Libra provides us with an enhanced opportunity to really reflect and review our relationships with others.   We can use the energy to understand those that we love and those that are in our lives.   We can see a glimpse of what motivates them.   Taking advantage of this energy will enlighten and enliven our experience with those we care for.   You simply need to use your eyes, and you will see!

Around every three months we experience one of the most annoying of astrological phenomena – Mercury Retrograde.   Its symptomatic problems of communication, failed plans, and tendency to provoke argument and misunderstandings (and these remain true to form) have made it a “household” term.  However, many people do not really understand what exactly this phenomena means or whether or not anything positive can come of it.

What is Mercury Retrograde?   
Actually it is an optical illusion!  Planets never really go backwards, yet with the orbital rotation of the earth it appears that Mercury is moving in an alternative direction than it actually is.   Imagine this, you are driving down the interstate and you pass an automobile.   You are driving at 55 miles per hour, whereas the other automobile is driving at 35 miles per hour.   You pass the car, and it appears from your rear-view mirror that the other car is moving backwards.   This is called retrogradation.

What does it mean?

Whenever a planet goes retrograde, it seems to introvert the natural energy of the planet.   Some astrologers believe that when a planet goes retrograde it seems to bring forth “fated” events that bring forth the issues of the sign it is in.  For example, this Mercury retrograde is in the sign of Libra which involves relationships, harmony, business partnerships, and open enemies.   I have not found that a “fated” event is what takes place, but I have found that the sign that Mercury is in seems to project people inward to ask important questions about what they want out of their future.  It is a period of introspection and analysis, and it often opens individuals in ways that normally they would not be open.   In addition, Mercury retrograde brings to the forefront issues from the past that have been unresolved and re-opens those particular doors.

Today, the Sun moves into the zodiacal sign of Libra.  Unlike the Sun moving into other signs, its movement through the seasonal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) is the most dominant.  Ingress Charts (which are what they are called) reveal the themes of the “season”, and sets the tone for the next 3 months.   Since Libra is the seasonal sign before the United States President Election, I decided this is a chart we should all be focused on.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you are aware of the hemorrhaging financial institutions in the United States.  The Main Stream Media as well as the cable talk shows have been inundated with chatter over the expected government bailout of Wall Street and bludgeoned financial institutions.  According to top economic analysts, the US lost approximately 1 trillion dollars over the course of the day on September 15, 2008.   With no end in sight, the Ingress Chart begins with a predictable, yet shocking, focus on a nation in crisis.

The State of the Nation:  26 Scorpio

The Ascendant (1^st house cusp) reveals the energy of the moment that the Sun moves into Libra.   Scorpio rising reveals that the United States is in crisis, and that it needs to make decisions and choices about which way to move forward.   This coincides with the largest government bailout of Wall Street since the Great Depression.   Mars, the traditional ruler of Scorpio is in the 11^th house of Congress in detriment or weak by placement.  The economy is in turmoil and it is dependent on Congress to fix it.    Adding insult to injury, Mars is in opposition to Eris (the new dwarf planet) revealing that we have to change the current banking institutions that have failed us.  The United States cannot go back to doing business the way it has in the past, as the apple of strife and discord has been tossed.   Since Mars applies to a conjunction with Mercury (ruler of the 10^th house presidency and 8^th house of National Debt) the tied up hands of Wall Street is dependent upon the President relying on the American people to bail out the financial sector.   Keep in mind, before Mars can conjoin with Mercury, Mercury will go retrograde revealing that the current crisis will continue at least until after the election. 

How is Our Money? – 23 Sagittarius

The 2^nd house cusp of the Ingress Chart brings to the forefront our current financial situation as a country.  Sagittarius resides on the cusp of the 2^nd house.   The ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter sits here awkwardly in its fall (very little power) in Capricorn.  The traditional optimistic spirit of Americans fails us as we look at a 12 Trillion dollar national debt, a weakened dollar, increased inflation, and rising oil costs.   Jupiter is the planet of excess, and we are now paying for the excesses that have gone unharnessed leading to this current economic crisis.  However, all is not lost, as Jupiter is making an opportunitistic (sextile) aspect to Uranus.   Uranus always brings with it upheavals, which will usher in rehabilitation and regulation of the financial sector bringing an end to our current system and the beginning of another.   Expect to see heavy regulation beginning to occur with lending institutions and Wall Street and our financial institutions over the next 2 year period reaching its apex in late 2010 early 2011 when Jupiter conjoins with Uranus in Pisces.

George W. Bush:  09 Virgo

Claudia Dikinis (Starcats) predicted in early 2001 after Bush won the election, that he would eventually be a prisoner in his own White House.  This prediction (despite numerous naysayers disputing her) has become resoundingly true.  President Bush’s approval rating is at 31% -- the lowest approval rating of a President in modern history.  An approval rating so low that his own party has distanced itself from him.  Saturn, the planet of restriction and karma sits in the 10^th house of the Ingress chart, revealing a depressed and disengaged president strapped with the 2^nd largest crisis of his administration.  Mercury, the ruler of the 10^th is peregrine (not in a sign with dignity) and reveals that the government is shooting fish in the dark, throwing Jello on the walls, and rubbing lipstick on a pig (note:  This statement in no way is associated with Governor Palin (AK), nor should it be meant or inferred to her) in hopes that something will stick as the country borders on financial collapse.   

Mercury, which also rules the 8^th house of National Debt, is fundamentally bound to the Executive Branch, and its inability or perhaps disinterest in correcting a broken system.  In a complete turnaround (Mercury turning retrograde) it proposes giving the Secretary of the Treasury broad reaching powers (more government) despite being part of the party which prides itself on the pursuit of small government.   Bush’s actions are even opposed by the Republican Nominee for the Presidency -- John McCain. 

Regardless of his political position, Bush will continue to go through great difficulties throughout the remainder of his Presidency.  The Sun in any mundane chart symbolizes the President.   The Sun’s applying aspects reveal his future.  In this case, The Sun applies to an obstacle laden (sesquiquadrate) aspect with wounding Chiron.  Chiron is in the 3^rd house of trade and information revealing that through the remnants of his presidency, Bush will be plagued by a suffering economy, crippled financial institutions, and further questions regarding his war with Iraq and its continuing cost.   Mr. Bush remains hopeful that the future will vindicate his legacy, yet similar to past leaders the dye has been cast.    Eris’ apple (Mercury in opposition to Eris) has landed unexpectedly on his desk!

The Presidential Election:  Saturn Opposes Uranus

With Bush in America’s outhouse, we could continue to see Republican John McCain’s hopes of becoming President diminished with his connections to the current administration.  Uranus in the fourth house reveals that massive changes are on the horizon as Americans become fearful about the future.    As long as the economy is the mainstay of American Media, Barack Obama is at great advantage.   McCain would have to steer the media towards his bellicose conversation and hope that the narrative of the moment changes.   Interestingly, Mercury on Election Day returns to 29 Libra (same degree it was at during the 2000 election).  Could we see a repeat of Election 2000 and a disputed election?  Or will Barack Obama win the popular vote, yet John McCain wins the Presidency?   The chart reveals that anything can turn on a dime, so we will have to watch closely who is ahead on Election Day, as Saturn is the planet of upsets and disappointment can give the election to the underdog.

Sun in Leo/Moon in Libra:

As the Sun continues to move through Leo and the Moon continues its trek through Libra, one notable astrological change has occurred – the ruler of Libra (Venus) has moved into Virgo.     Keywords for the sign of Virgo are – “my need to analyze, discriminate, and function efficiently”.   Venus feels quite out of sorts in the sign of Virgo, and is considered to be in its “fall”.   What does this mean?   Any planet that is placed in the sign of its fall will feel quite out of place and quite clumsy in such alien terrain.   Although, Venus does have an earth based element (Taurus) resulting in the love of money and pleasure, it is really not all that comfortable with the realm of responsibility, duty, and what she (Venus) would consider boring day to day life.  Therefore, Venus tends to be refined, sanitized, and finds herself to be in service to other people when placed in this sign. 

I believe that the planets are instructive influences.   They teach us basically the way we should utilize their energies and make the most out of them.  For some, depending on their natal placements this can be challenging yet for rewarding, and for others it can be graceful yet unproductive.   This is why I believe we all should know and understand our natal horoscopes to access this particular energy, and find out how to use these transits in a beneficial manner. 

Venus in Virgo tells us to look inward at our relationships and ask ourselves how we can be of service to other individuals.   How can we give of ourselves without expecting anything in return?   In addition, we can use the energy of Virgo to analyze where we need to make changes in ourselves to be more productive (Virgo) in our relationships (Venus).   Take the 3 weeks of this transit and ask yourself a simple question:  What does my mate/mates/future mates need from me?   Insight can be a very powerful tool for the future.

Mars opposing Uranus:

I purposely did my entire Virgo explanation in order to prepare us for this next section.  Mars is a very explosive planet and Uranus is about disruptions and the breaking down of old ideals and forms.   These two energies combined together can often cause overreactions to circumstances surrounding us presently.   Mars, like Venus, is not real comfortable in the sign of Virgo.   Mars is our ability to go out into the world and get what we would like out of life, and Virgo is the sign of rules and responsibilities, which Mars detests.   This combination is like a bull walking around in a china shop – please avoid all dishes.

Sun in Leo/Moon in Libra:

The Sun continues its trek through the sign of Leo today, and the Moon moves into relationship oriented Libra.   Remember, this is an Eclipse Moon, so everything this month that began during the Eclipse New Moon continues to be heightened and high energy.   The Moon being in Libra creates a sextile (opportunities) aspect to the Sun in Leo.   We can powerfully use this energy to open up communication that has either shut down or has evaded us.   However, we must be very careful and approach the situation without expectation if we expect any “seed” results to occur.   Further, we can use the energy today to constructively look (Libra is the third sign (communication) away from Leo so we can utilize our minds effectively) at what we want out of relationships.  Take some time today, to sit down and simply meditate on what it is that you would like to have in your life.   If you are currently in a relationship, you can use the energy today to ask yourself what things you can do to make your relationship better.

A lunar eclipse (Full Moon Eclipse) foretells that something is ripe for the picking.   Circumstances and situations are coming to fruition!   This can happen on a global level or if it aspects your chart heavily on a personal level.   Remember, Eclipses are triggers, and you cannot trigger something in your chart which is not already there to begin with.   If you are someone born very early in the signs of Virgo/Pisces/Gemini/Sagittarius, you might want to ask what you are attempting to "birth" in your lives, and what you are bringing to fruition.

Astrological Consciousness:

If you look towards the stars you notice something peculiar occurring – most of the planets are in the last 3 signs of the zodiac.  Does this have any meaning?  The last three signs of the tropical zodiac are Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.  These signs are known as universal or collective signs.    They are concerned with collective issues such as our position in the world, our group conscience, and the undercurrents which all life spawns from.   Our celestial focus is universal meaning that our minds and energy are focused outside of ourselves rather than inside. 

At this time as the world focuses outside, we need to remember not to become completely caught up in this.   We need to ask ourselves whether or not we ourselves believe in something, or do we believe in something because others have instructed us to believe.   It is time for you to really begin to value your sense of individual nature and individual goals and ambitions.   Then we truly begin to offer something to the collective.  When we are truly ourselves, we can offer so much to others, and as a result the world.    So your key astrological thought for the day is:  BE THYSELF!

Daily Kabbalistic Consciousness:

Sun in Capricorn/Moon in Taurus

The Moon moves into Taurus today again emphasizing our focus on the physical.   Kabbalah calls this the 1% level, because although it is the “here” and “now” it is something that individuals we have an enormous tendency to focus upon.    The New Age movement of the 21^st Century augured a time in which we would have an expansion towards the ‘Brotherhood of Man’, yet the first part of this Century has been more the expansion towards isolation.  As we begin to have every digital, everything ipoded, everything based upon the new toys that we create, often times we forget the things that matter to us.  What really matters to you?  Today, we can use this energy to really take inventory of our lives and begin to push ourselves forward in a direction in which we do create a “brotherhood” environment by reaching out to the people around us and creating new values (Taurus) which really matter.

Sun Quincunx Mars

There is an interesting aspect which occurs today.  The Sun in Capricorn Quincunx’s Mars in Gemini!  This is a positive aspect because it motivates us to be inspired and make change.  Anytime you have two fiery planets in aspect to each other, it puts forth enormous amounts of energy and enormous amounts of opportunities to adjust the way we do things and bring forth something new in our lives.  Since this is a 6^th house aspect, you may begin to make changes in your day to day life or you might consider heading in a new direction regarding career.  Regardless, if you have been unhappy with the way your life has been heading now is the time to begin to put out the energy (Sun/Mars) to begin to make this change in your life.  The energy is there for you today – SO JUST DO IT!

Venus Sextile Neptune

All sextile aspects create opportunities.  Have you been wondering whether or not the state of your relationship is real?  Now, is the time for you to analyze this issue and to infuse a deeper sense of connectedness to the person you love!  In fact, you can have both romance and reality.    If you feel that the relationship is not stable for you then now is the time for you to use Venus’ energy of physical structure and begin to build more inroads of stability in your relationship.    Remember, to take a look at what you value out of your relationships and this will help you to make the changes and use this opportunity to build something more secure in your relationship lives.

Sun in Capricorn/Moon in Aries

As the Sun continues to move through the earthy sign of Capricorn, the Moon is currently in the sign of Aries.   There is an interesting component to this combination.  Mars, the ruler of Aries is the exalted ruler of Capricorn.  I have explained elsewhere, what an exaltation means, so I will not explain it here, but the energy is vastly powerful and gives us a lot of power today to work with.    Remember, that the Sun in Capricorn reflects our physical life and our physical world – it points towards our position in life and what we do to define ourselves.   The Moon in Aries, is a highly emotionally charged placement, yet also gives enormous amounts of drive and determination.   Combined these placements reflect our ability to go out into the world (Capricorn) and get what we want (Aries).   Sit down today and reflect on what is that you truly want in your life at the moment.   If you are seeking a new career opportunity now would be the time for you to start investigating these areas of your life.   However, make sure you watch overreacting to the circumstances around you.  Moon in Aries has a very knee-jerk reaction, so make sure that you sit and attempt to be calm as you go through your circumstances.

Mercury Shadow:   

The planet Mercury is going to go into “shadow” today.  Shadow is the degree to which Mercury will come back to during its retrograde process.   You have a shadow period right before Mercury goes retrograde and right after it goes direct.   Shadow periods often highlight the areas that Mercury will affect for you.  So pay close attention to communication over the next 2 weeks.  

Portion: Yitro

In Kabbalah, this week we move into the portion of Yitro.   Yitro is one of the few names portions out of the bible that actually refer to an individual.   This is very important as we learn through the Kabbalistic Masters that Yitro actually lived before.    This could reflect a few things – revelation that we have been here before, or that we all have many lives through the course of a lifetime.    For practical reasons, I believe that the later is probably the most applicable.

What does this mean?  We live many lives during our lifetime.  Well, simply put you are not the same person that you are 10 years ago.  You grow and you change, and that you become stronger, more educated, and filled with worldly wisdom as you live your life.   Every time that we begin something new we start a new “life” of sorts.  

This week we are given a powerful opportunity.  We can let go of the past and focus on the future.   Are you hanging on to something from the past that you should move beyond?  Do you have DEAD WORKS in your life?   Take the time this week to let it go.  Remember the experience and what you have learned out of it – and simply let go.  You are a new person now!  This means new experience and a brighter new life.   This time you can make the choices to get it right and enjoy happiness.

Sun in Capricorn/Moon in Aquarius:

As the Sun continues its sojourn through the sign of Capricorn, and the Moon moves into innovate Aquarius, we are reminded to look at things from the larger perspective.  Often times as individuals, we get very caught up in our momentary issues and momentary problems.  Those problems could be our love lives, our financial lives, our health, or any other garden variety of problems the human condition experiences.   We often get caught up in our momentary tribulations.   The Moon in Aquarius offers us the ability to look at the larger picture, and begin planning in a more innovative manner than we have before. 

What I do, during this particular combination (it only happens once a year), is I begin to look at my life in a realistic (Capricorn) manner.  What are the problems currently in my life?  What is upsetting me?  Where are the obstacles?  Then I ask myself, what could the bigger picture be?   For example, often times when we are experiences difficulties in our financial lives is because we need to move beyond the comfort of our current position, and find something new that is more financially beneficial to us. 

 We need to THINK LARGE.  We have a unique experience this year, to think (Aquarius) and manifest (Capricorn).   Are you up for the challenge?

Mercury moves out of Capricorn and into Aquarius today.   Aquarius is an air sign, which has to do with the mind, intellect, group consciousness, and our friends.   Mercury naturally feels at home here, because he is in his own element, and in fact is considered exalted in this sign.   However, Mercury spends an enormous amount of time in this sign do to its retrograde action (I will go into this in a later post).  

What does it mean to be exalted?   Any planet that is exalted in a sign is considered a special guest.   It would be similar to The Queen of England visiting the United States.  She is not the leader of the country, but she is held in “high regard”, therefore she would be “exalted” to a higher standard than other leaders.    You can also use a metaphor regarding best friends.  Even though your friends are often accepted and invited and part of your core group; a best friend is more considered family and holds an “exalted” status within your social group.   Best friends would hold a higher significance in your home than your other friends would.   So, Mercury feels good in Aquarius and is able to express (Mercury) itself in an expanded and innovative way.  

Aries and Sagittarius:  Mercury in Aquarius will offer you special opportunities to communicate in an effective manner.   For Aries, you may find that communicating with your siblings and expanding your education are areas that you will be considering over the next few months.  Take this time to use these opportunities to your advantage!  If need to resolve relationships with your siblings you can use this transit to plant a more positive seed and begin the process of communicating in more of an effective manner.   For Sagittarius, Mercury in Aquarius reflects a time to open up new friendships and join new social clubs.  You will find others very supportive at this time.

Taurus and Scorpio:  Mercury in Aquarius can be difficult for you over the next few months.   There is a natural square (obstacles) between these signs, and you can find yourself at odds with people around you – especially family members.   Take this time to keep the lines of communication open in a positive manner, remember squares are tense, yet provide us opportunities for growth.   Ask yourself where you need to grow with your communication during this cycle.    For Taurus, you could find issues regarding your home and needs for repair occur during this cycle; it is time to tidy things up and fix anything that you may have been putting off or avoiding.  For Scorpio, you could find tension in the work place, and this might lead you to asking yourself questions about your future career decisions.

Cancer and Virgo:  Mercury in Aquarius means that you need to make adjustments over the next few months.   Mercury is naturally inclined towards the inconjunct (adjustments) aspect, as Mercury is known as a trickster.   For Cancer, you may find yourself focusing on your health and day to day activities at this time.  If you want to begin a new health program or exercise regime this would be the time for you to put this to work.  For Virgo, you may need to take a stronger look at your budget and decide where you can cut the fat, and tighten up your financial spending.

Leo:   Mercury in Aquarius can strongly affect your relationships over the next several months.  This transit is going to cause tension in those around you, and you might find yourself at odds with people.   Since relationships begin with the relationships with our families, it can also effect familial communications.   Oppositions give us a unique opportunity.  They provide us with information and details about ourselves.  Everything that you find difficult about other individuals you should deeply look at inside of yourself and see if you also are at fault.   Take this time to explore yourself and you may find many insightful things you can apply to your future.
