OBSTACLES

What do you do when you are faced with one obstacle after another?  You feel like you've just overcome one situation to find yourself face to face with another mountain to climb.  Maybe you begin thinking you can't handle one more dilemma and then BAM another one appears.

I know all too well what it feels like to go from one crisis to another. My husband came home with news saying he was let go from his job after my son's heart surgery.  Going through the experience of heart surgery with my adopted son with Down syndrome at three years of age certainly felt huge enough. Never mind having my husband be out of a job when he was the only one working.  He found another job to only end up laid off right before Christmas, and today he can't even make it to work because he hurt his back.  I've been ill for the past week, and today my little guy is coughing.  My mother is facing gallbladder surgery as soon as my stepdad has his back surgery, and I know I'm needed there as well.

So what is the key?  Take it one day at a time and minute by minute.  Don't force yourself to make any quick decisions when faced with a crisis.  Lean on the Lord or your higher power. Try meditating or going for a walk, and if that isn't possible just close yourself off in a room alone for a little while. Trust that you WILL overcome and you WILL find the strength to get through the obstacles.   Believe in your abilities.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel so TRUST you WILL get there in time.  I believe there is a purpose and a time for ALL things. Obstacles often take us on new paths that maybe we would have not chosen to go, but wonderful things can happen on our journey if we are open to learning new things. So enjoy today for what it is regardless of your circumstances, and don't allow obstacles to steal your joy.    Take those obstacles and turn them to your advantage!  Focus on the good that can happen because of the issues you face, and find humor.

My mother use to tell me God only gives us what we can handle.  I sat back many times thinking BOY HE MUST REALLY THINK I CAN HANDLE A LOT!  What I have found is that my obstacles have turned out to be blessings in one form or another.  I am able to help more people because of all of the things I have faced in my life. I can speak from experience, and I can remind you that our frame of mind and our attitude truly shapes the outcome of every obstacle you encounter.

It truly is a matter of focus.  When you lose a loved one, you can focus on the LIFE or focus on the death. You can choose to see the blessing or merely mourn your own loss.  When you lose a job, you can see the door being shut OR focus on the new opportunities ahead. Maybe this frees you up to do new things or simply take a breathe to find a new path.  When you are ill, you can focus on every symptom or focus on everything that is working fine in your body or life.  It's all a matter of focus and attitude.  We can dwell on everything that isn't right and make ourselves sicker or we can believe in ourselves and focus on the gifts we have.

What may feel like an obstacle today may actually turn out to be a blessing. It really is in all how you look at it.

Wishing you the very best to be the best you can be!

God bless,

Serenity

Keep looking UP! ;)

Quote of the Day

To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to.

Quote of the Day

Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.
Stephen A. Brennan

I hope all the Moms have had a wonderful Mother's Day.  I have been ill, and unavailable for my clients this weekend. I will be available off and on today depending on how I am feeling as the day wears on.   I have been thankful that my little guy with Down syndrome has not gotten sick.

Today I wish for you a happy and certainly healthy week!

Quote of the Day

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.
       - Anne Frank

Quote of the Day

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.
       - Eleanor Roosevelt

***************************************************************************************

Have you allowed fears to stop you from progress? I always think of this as a little devil on one shoulder whispering in your ear that you can't do it or you shouldn't even try, as the angel on the other shoulder tries to tell you that you can achieve greatness if you just believe.  So if you find yourself struggling today with negative thinking, ask yourself what could happen if just for today you thought positively.  Many of us do not apply for jobs or make relationship changes when we are thinking negatively.  We can often find comfort in staying right where we are.  The idea of stepping outside the box can be scary for many because we allow negative thinking to win over our desire to make changes.

Key words to look for to give you a clue if you are thinking in a negative mode: "what if," "I can't," "maybe tomorrow," "if only," and I'm sure there are many more.

Ask yourself today if you are acting out of fear or out of love.  If you find that little devil (negative thoughts) are stopping progress, tell the little guy to take a hike and you no longer are going to allow your dreams to be squashed.  It may take time to change the way you think, but you can do it!  Focus on the goals ahead.

Best wishes for a great day!

Quote of the Day

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

****************************************************

You are special just as you are!  Be true to yourself and your convictions. The only approval you need is the person who looks back at you in the mirror!

Make today a great day by just appreciating your unique talents. Be the best YOU that you can be!

Quote of the Day

That first peak is the best place to pause and look back, to see if you took the easiest route, to learn the lessons from the first climb. And it is the best place to examine the terrain ahead, to change your plans and goals, to take a deep breath and begin climbing again.
       -
By Michael Johnson

******************************************************************************************************

Take time to smell the roses today!  Pause long enough to look back upon your life as lessons learned, and strength found as you forge forth.  I have found in my own life that it's the trials that have given me courage, strength and tenacity.  I also feel in those moments where I purposely set out to find the quietness within my mind, I too find inspiration for my journey ahead.  It's upon further looking at my goals that I can reexamine where I am headed and plan for an even better future. What may seem a mistake is often a greater learning experience and often I have learned a valuable lesson through the most intense times of my life.

I wish for you some quietness today, so that you too may be the best you can be.  Appreciate where you are right now in your journey.  Love who you are today.  So many people tell themselves they will love themselves when they have better jobs, lose some weight, or find themselves in a loving relationship.  There is nothing like the present, it certainly is a gift!

Quote of the Day
Henry David Thoreau:

Thought is the sculptor who can create the person you want to be.

***************************************************

Having five children of my own, I have constantly told them that they can be anything they want to be IF THEY BELIEVE.  Our beliefs or thoughts certainly help create who we are or aren't.  Your thoughts can make for a good day or a bad one, and it truly is up to you what you choose for today and tomorrow.

So be all you can be by choosing a positve thought today, then follow that through with a positive action.  Suddenly your future unfolds before you to be limitless.

If you are needing to vent, or just share your thoughts please feel free to pick up the phone and call me.  I do tarot readings as well, and all of my proceeds go towards taking care of my little adopted son with Down syndrome.

Love and light,

Serenity

Quote of the Day
Marianne Williamson:

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

********************************************************

If you find yourself full of fears, and need someone to talk to I am certainly here to listen.  I  hope you will find love, laughter and light on this wonderful Friday.  May the Lord's light shine upon all those in need today.

Blessings,

Serenity

Quote of the Day
Martin Luther King, Jr.:

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Quote of the Day
Edwin H. Friedman:

The colossal misunderstanding of our time is the assumption that insight will work with people who are unmotivated to change. Communication does not depend on syntax, or eloquence, or rhetoric, or articulation but on the emotional context in which the message is being heard. People can only hear you when they are moving toward you, and they are not likely to when your words are pursuing them. Even the choices words lose their power when they are used to overpower. Attitudes are the real figures of speech.

Quote of the Day
Ecclesiastes:

For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Quote of the Day
Carlos Castaneda:

The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.

********************************************************

This quote goes along with what I have believed all along. I can wake up and focus on every injustice of the world OR focus on all that is well.  It's our choice to choose our attitude no matter what our circumstance or situation.

 I adopted a little boy with Down syndrome because I focused on the positives and the UPSIDE to Down syndrome.  I chose to see the little boy and not the condition. That has made all the difference in my life!

I wish for you happiness and joy today and every day!

Love and light,

Quotes for Today

Anne Frank:

Then, without realizing it, you try to improve yourself at the start of each new day; of course, you achieve quite a lot in the course of time. Anyone can do this, it costs nothing and is certainly very helpful. Whoever doesn't know it must learn and find by experience that a quiet conscience makes one strong.

Abraham Lincoln:

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing.
