What Has It Got To Do With You?

I had to go into town today to get some supplies and all the way to town I was asking that there be money in my bank account so I could buy what I needed.  I managed to get money from my account and as I was walking to the shop I heard someone mumble something as they walked past me, but I didn’t hear exactly what they said just something about change.

I walked a couple paces more then stopped and turned round and there was a scruffy guy with a dog, I walked towards them and said to him “sorry I didn’t hear what you said” at the same time as opening my purse because it was then it registered he was asking for change.  He looked at me and said “no-one has ever said sorry to me, just a few coppers for a drink of coffee will do”,  I handed him £2 ($4) smiled and looked into the gentlest eyes I have ever seen, turned and carried on walking to the shop.

A woman walking towards me said “you shouldn’t have given him anything, scruffy so and so he will only spend it on drugs, these tramps are a nuisance”

I looked at her and smiled and said “what has it got to do with you, it’s up to him to do what he pleases with the money he has, and for your information it’s not the likes of him that are a nuisance it’s people like you who forget how lucky they are and how so easily that could be them, God bless” and I walked on my way.

Why is it people assume that just because someone is down on their luck they are drug addicts or drunkards and don’t deserve a choice or a chance.  A couple of times I have got to the point where my neighbours have had to feed my daughter, not through any fault of my own but through circumstances, illness and not being able to work.

Never forget when you see someone worse off then you that it’s only by faith in God/Spirit/Universe that it is someone else and not you.

Blessings.

That was real heart warming. U will get10times back what u give. People are always judgemental and think they r better than the next person. That person was very greatful for u. I do the same thing from time to time when I have extra. It is a good feeling. that is good u told the lady that. People need to mind there own business and keep comments to their self. People that I thought were my friends, even tell me that I am too negative for them, and don't talk to me anymore. What makes them better than me? Thanks for sharing, gives u a lot to think about when judging the next person!

You go girl!  I do this alot and even when I'm not so bucks up.  Sometimes they don't even ask and I do it.  Everyone says I am stupid and naive for this but I could be there someday and maybe an Angel like you could walk by.

Whew hoo! I agree with the others you go girl! and Amen!
I have to admit at times i have been guilty of thinking they would just go buy booze with it. But then I get a spiritual spanking if you will. then realize hey I have been down and out to the point as a child (teenager) when i ran away froma foster home I had no food to eat and had to steal from my friends garden to eat!
Now I don't share thigns as that much but felt it was called for here.
I have always felt bad for that & try myself to give when I have it as I never know when I wont be able to eat again. Guess that is why when i have had extra i always giv eit to neighbors or have taken to work extra.

I recall a time my son came home and told me of how he was on his lunch break and it was freezing outside, and he saw this woman by Wal_Mart holding a sign that she had no money and would work for food and was stranded. EVeryone passed her at the Stop sign she was by. Well my son told me "Mom I saw her and decided to motion her over" And people got mad at me for holding up traffic, But her mouth was so cracked from the cold and she only had a very lite jacket on and her eyes were sunk in so I told her hold on I got my soda money and ciggarette money out of my ash tray and gave it to her along with what I had in my pocket!!!he said.
Then he told me "Mom she said it is Great & God Bless you, over nad over". he said she started to swell with tears, and I thought if she does she is coming home with me no matterhow much you may have got mad or ***** (B word)as i couldn't have handled that Mom".
He said she acted like I gave her a Million dollars. So I felt it was right to give away my lunch money & hold up traffic.

I was so proud of him and got up and just went over and hugged him & cried. he said gosh Mom i knew you would do that, maybe I shouldn't have told you!
I told him Son you did the right thing & I am proud of you more people need to be giving. And i am sure you did make her feel as though she just got a million dollars especially when others would just frown and pass her by.

Ok maybe I shared to much personal stuff but I am so proud of you Trinity you have truly made my Day as earlier I was down.

Love it truly what it is all about isn't it?

# re: What Has It Got To Do With You?

thank you guys, I don't have much myself but I am lucky I have something I can share with others.  I have started making a habit of always putting some change into the charity boxes they usually have by the tills as well.  I mean isn't it better to give than take, knowing one day when you are in need it will be taken care of.  What really got me was when he said that no-one had ever said sorry to him before...wow....and his dog was so well behaved, so many people look down on others but at the end of the day we all came into the world the same way and we'll all go out of it the same way, I guess some of us will just go out smiling knowing we always did our best by ourselves and by others.  Blessings to you all.
