Play the ‘If I Were’ Game.

We have all at some point in our lives suffered from low self-esteem, usually because of a harrowing experience.  It can be hard to get ourselves back when this has happened and it can even leave us questioning who we really are, sometimes no amount of re-assurance or ‘kicks up the backside’ makes any difference.

One tool I have used many times is to play the ‘What if I were’ game.  Pick out the good points in a person you admire and incorporate those points into your life.

If your confidence has been knocked in your job, act and dress with the confidence of a business woman or man that you admire.  If your personal life has been rocked then take on the persona of someone you admire and see as having a good balanced life.

You will soon find yourself regaining your lost confidence and will be able to fly solo once more.

Blessings.

That is soooo true!  I remember in my younger years - twenties, that my self-esteem took a good whack by a cruel boss.  It just became a part of me, until I realized that I could change it.  I did much of what you have described and it did lift my spirits enough for me to realize that I control me, not the circumstances or people around me.  Thank you for that valuable reminder! -Margaret
