Let Go Of The Future

The most used phrase of our modern times when it comes to moving forward in our lives is, “Let Go Of  The Past” then and only then can you step into the future.

But what about the fact that so many people are trying to live the future now, that can be just as damaging as living in the past.

You see to be truly happy, content and serene you have to understand that what happens to, and how you react to, the now, the here, the today will have an affect on your tomorrow.

Some people spend a good part of their lives going round in circles coming back to the same point time and time again, this is because they try to live their future now and thus miss the lesson they are really being given.

It is no good living yesterday today because you can’t change what happened you can only change your reaction to what happened.  You can’t live tomorrow today because how you perceive you will react to something and how you actually react to it are two different things because reactions come from emotions and your emotions may not be the same tomorrow as they are today.

So if you want a life of contentment, peace, abundance and happiness, forget there was a yesterday, forget there is tomorrow and live as if today was the only time.  If I see something that I would really like but don’t need and can’t afford anyway,  I remind myself “hey, you’ve managed this far without it, you can manage a bit further”.

There is no need to hanker after what you might be getting because what you have now is what you need now and now is all that matters. Now is what you need to be grateful for.

Blessings.

Good words to heed, my friend!  Everyone should wake up each morning knowing that the slate has been wiped clean and we get yet another chance to do and to say the right thing and to strive to be the very person you want to be.
Thanks for giving us yet another pearl of wisdom!
Loves ya!   Cheryl

Dear Trinity:

You are so correct!  I was reviewing Eckhart Tolle's book this morning and I was really giving myself a pep talk about living in the now!  Great blog Trinity as usual.

Cheers Cheryl, the thing is if you hold onto something with one hand that's gone and try and grab something that isn't yet here with the other you end up stuck in the middle going no-where.

Rosie, since I've been trying to stay in the now, I have found the days seem to disappear without me noticing, I  enjoy my days more and more, and instead of wasting time looking and waiting for something from the future I am able to appreciate and therefore enjoy what I have now fully.

Dear Trinity:

You are so correct.  Living in the moment is absolutely essential.  I just revel in the revelations I am receiving since reading Eckharts book.  I know I refer to him a lot lately but his teachings are so profound and have made me rethink everything I have learned in the past.

Thank you for sharing.

I think what is important is to have an open mind about the future this releases it and lets you settle into the now, by doing that you are not trying to cross bridges until you come to them, this I believe is where many people trip up.
If you concentrate on the now you are able to change it if it isn't giving you that feel good factor, that way you can look to the past with a good feeling and fond memories rather than looking back on hurt and pain and what you carry with you into the future is positive good vibrations.

I think it is really difficult to live in the now. Because of the way the world is, even when things are going great, its like you are waiting for the other shoe to drop. Its not a good way to live and by doing so you do miss sight of the now things occurring. As far as letting go of the past, I think you cannot just drop it but must process things in order to forgive and move on. However I dont think this should interfere with the present because the present involves coming to peace with it all that preceded and enjoying that process as well as being a participant in the current now. Complicated actually.

thank you for your comments. "Waiting for the other shoe to drop" is simply living in fear of something that might not happen.

Letting go of the past isn't easy, but having a realisation that the past is what has brought you to where you are now, is the way to go.

Yes you are right. There are some people who have blocked the past yet it is in their unconsious. Then something triggers it. I think that makes it very hard to be in the constant present. I was just talking to my beloved and I said you know I don't regret my past because I wouldnt be here with you, or the person I am currently. However, I do have things I wish I had done differently. Is that regret?
I do realize the past is gone. You cannot have a do over. And I can put that behind me as I have forgiven, specially myself, and moved into the now. But then I get to thinking about the above question lol.Yep I'm a little thinking machine.
