Is Holding On Making The Pain Worse?
Are you making your emotional pain worse by staying put or moving in the direction of the pain?
I suffer from very bad cramping of my legs, if I keep my foot in the position it was in when the cramping starts, the cramping just continues to get worse, to stop the cramping I have to move my foot in the opposite direction. Although the cramping doesn’t stop immediately it gradually subsides. Quite often I am left with residual pain for a couple of days but eventually that goes away as well.
If you turn away from the source of your pain yes is will hurt for a little while, but it will be a healing pain rather than a destructive pain, and will subside as time goes on.
If you had a painful spot on your face and the cream you used to clear it up only worked for a short time but then the spot and the pain came back again, you would do the sensible thing and change the cream you are using.
It’s the same with painful relationships, if it is causing you pain over and over again then do the sensible thing, turning in the opposite direction knowing the initial burst of pain will subside and you will then be in a position for the healing to really start.
