Don't Let The Sun Go Down

At 2am tomorrow Sunday,  officially British Summer Times ends, clocks go back and we wake up to darker days.

Autumn is here, the time of change, when plants and trees shed their summer finery and prepare to hibernate and rejuvenate ready for the spring time.  The animals that also hibernate for the winter will start in earnest to store up food for their long sleep. Birds gather ready for migration to warmer climates.

Time when we humans start thinking about getting our winter woollies out of the cupboard, getting our heating systems checked, clearing gutters etc, ready for the winter.

Autumn is such a colourful time as the leaves change, some winter flowers start to bloom, we have less sunny days and less sunlight hours.  Yet it can be just as lovely to be outside in Autumn as it can be in the summer.

Watching the leaves turning gold, russet and red can be so uplifting and make you feel warm even on a cold day.  Cold days are a wonderful excuse to have the comforting foods, thick soup with chunky vegetables, casseroles slow cooked. Mugs of hot chocolate, warm soaks in the bath. Sitting in candle light feeling warm and cosy.

I feel blessed to live in a place that has these wonderful season changes.  So what if it rains a lot that’s a good excuse not to have to mow the grass.

Autumn a time of change, a time to take stock, a time to celebrate the new wonders that appear.

Happy Autumn
