THE MAGICAL CRONES POETRY SHOW
April is National Poetry Month and to my honor, I was asked to do readings from my 2nd published book, "An Explosion of Toads: A Celebration of Eccentricity". Immediately I searched for a creative strategy tip that would bring in a crowd.
"Magic & Maturity" came up in my cards.. From this I heard Renaissance Music, Lakota Native Flute, soft guitar and drums. I remembered all the women in my life I honored for their strength and self assurance to express openly their unique qualities in "later life." None of them seemed to shy from curious looks.
Some biked around the city as Artists, Shop Keepers, Newspaper Reporters or just Creative Thinkers. "Call the most unique Crone you know." went through my head. Immediately I called a 78 Yr old woman that grew herbs and designed pathways leading to shrines of clay faces, prisms and small shimmering mirrors. Caite was a true poet and would recite dramatically her magical lyrics when the moment called her. At 78 she had the freedom of a child.
I will stand Sarah, my Victorian wire caged dress bust, by the speaker podium dressed in lace and holding flowers. I hope to learn from my favorite 78 yr old Crone how to be free and flowing as she recites. Though the night is 2 weeks away I believe between 2 newspaper featurings and the gift of space at the Library the night will be filled with music, joy and unique souls at "The Magical Crones Poetry Show." And if not? You will see two women enjoying their solitude, reciting dramatically to the Spring night, their gesturing hands moving to Renaissance music as shadows dance on the walls.
