Should you return his gifts or burn them?
So there you are surrounded by a thousand memories of him. The gifts he gave you tear at your heart and bring tendor moments to your mind. Its like his living spirit is squeezing the breath from you . He's made it clear he is not interested in communicating any more. You keep telling yourself you are done! But there you are writing one more letter to explain how he hurt you. You wonder if he even reads them. And you are right. You are lucky if he gets through the first two paragraphs of your five page letter.
Then it occurs to you it would really tear his guts apart if you sent back each and every gift he gave you. You tell your self it would be a way to show you are really through. You know its another way to get him to communicate...good or bad. You are lucky if he does either. Its the total Arrogance that hurts most.
YOU NEED A CEREMONY TO LET GO
- Don't fool your self that sending back his old gifts is a closed door.
- In most cases, returning gifts leads to more angry communication.
- Actions speak louder then words. You've had enough!
- Take charge! Burning all pathways is final. No more maipulation.
If the possesions are too precious to give away or burn, give them to a Good Will or Salvationa Army. Release jewelry to friends in a distant town.
The Burning of love letters is especially symbolic to the mind and heart. Watching a letter burn in black circles and blow awayinto the Universe gives you permission to take a deep sigh and say "So be it." It is a ceremony of death,sadness and letting go of stagnation.
