A Child Shall Lead the Way Part 3

Lemons or Zest?

We all have come to a place in our lives where we begin wondering which way to go.  If you are at a crossroads, you might 'think' life just hands you lemons, but what if you began thinking life is just giving you a little zest to mold you into something better?  Life can be like a glass of ice tea with a slice of lemon.  The lemon adds just enough flavor to turn the ice tea into something special.

Noah, born with Down syndrome, two holes in his right eye, two holes in his heart gets up every day smiling.  He can go through his life thinking positive or negative, but I can tell you today he chooses to be happy for the blessings he has.  His 'focus' is on the good, not the bad.  I think we have much to learn from him.

My husband recently lost his job the day he went back to work from Noah's heart surgery. I have skipped to the path wondering 'which road do we take now?'  I could choose to celebrate my son's survival or mourn the loss of my husband's job and our main source of income.  Today I'm thrilled to tell you I am singing PRAISES because Noah is here to inspire me and remind me that life isn't just about jobs. Jobs can be replaced, but my son never can be. It's in those moments when zest is added to our lives that we grow the most. When life is going smoothly, we often forget to be thankful and we take so much for granted.  I've been given a gift.... more time with my son, Noah.  Noah is laughing and smiling even now as we wonder where life's path will take us.  We began packing thinking we'd move this year before the job loss, yet somehow Noah's song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" plays in the back of my mind.  I believe this is a time for growth for my family, and a time of great blessings.

Life is a wonderful journey.   Though it may not always seem fair,  it's our attitude that will carry us through the roughest moments.  If we go through those rocky moments believing our lives will be shaped and grand surprises may come from those lemons... we might just find a new zest for life! We might just be able to see a little lemon added to our cup may change us for the better.   Many blessings being sent your way from our house to yours!
