What's with all the rain?????
I was sitting in my room yesterday talking with a friend of mine, when all of a sudden and without warning, the sky got dark and the rain came. Lightning and thunder shook the house...I was actually waiting for the skies to come tumbling down and my house sink into the ground.
Since I moved to TX, I am in a state of perpetual dampness, so much so that the landscapers can't lay the sod in my backyard. Last year when the kids and I came down here to visit with John, TX was in a drought condition. The temperatures never got below 110 degrees during the day and overnight temperatures were in the 90's. This year, we can't hit 100 degrees and rain has visited us everyday. I can honestly tell you, I have not lost any electicity, cable, phone, etc.
Three years ago, 4th of July Holiday, the Philly suburbs had a horrible thunderstorm (living in TX now, the thunderstorms in comparison are pretty mild in PA).. I have underground wiring for electricity, phone, cable, etc., so when the bolt of lightning struck the underground transformer, I thought we'd be without power for 4 hours at the most! FIVE days later, the house is a stifling 90 degrees inside, I moved most of my frozen and refrigerated foods to my sister's house, took the kids to their grandparents and waited for the repairs to start. The lightning had melted all of the wires together so every one of the workmen had to call in the other's companies to collaberate on this. But I digress!
Now let's be honest here, this dampness has done a number on my hair!!! When I was a teenager, I had hair down to almost my knees...it was thick, straight as a board. I would spend Saturday morning washing my hair (in sections it was that long!); rolling it up in HUGE orange juice cans so I could get some wave to it (curls were NOT happening here, people!!!) I'd take out those orange juice cans in the morning and admire the wave and slight curl at the bottom of my hair, only to see it straighten as quickly as the curl came.
NOW, it gets humid and I look like a blonde brillo pad...just think ladies, you pay up to one hundred dollars to get a perm, I get it naturally now. I spend 30 minutes straightening it out with my blow dryer each morning; spray my coiffure with enough hair spray to petition for lacquer's comeback, only to walk outside and have it undone in seconds.
So the rain makers up there wherever and whomever you are.....ENOUGH ALREADY!!! Haven't I suffered enough????
Enjoy your day!!! Cheryl
